Gross hyperglycaemia due to lack of insulin causes massive fluid and electrolyte loss throggh the kidneys. Accumulating ketones leads to sys­tematic acidosis and hypotension. Patient pres­ents with polyuria, polydypsia, nausea, abdomi­nal pain, dehydration, stupor and coma
