Test:

P.cortisol (loss of diurnal variation, levels gener-ally H), S. & U.17-hydroxy steroids (H), WCC (H), B.eosinophils (L), B.lymphocytes (L), dexametha­sone suppression test (AB), B.neutrophils (H), U.glucose (+), GTT (AB)

Sign:

Exophthalmos, hypertension, moon face, buffalo hump, hirsutism, nail banding

Dd:

Obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cirrho-sis, steroid therapy

Phys:

Increased production of cortisol by adrenal gland due to excessive ACTH from the pituitary, results in a syndrome of truncal obesity, hypertension, malaise, oedema, hirsutism and osteoporosis
