| Management | Management: 1. The patient is admitted to hospital. 2. Anti-emetic e.g. cyclizine 50 mg. t.d.s. 3. Correction of fluid and electrolyte imbalance by intravenous infusion of 5% dextrose in saline plus normal saline. To maintain the nutrition 25% glucose may be given. 4. Sedatives. . 5.’ Vitamin supplements. *fc.i Oral feeding is begun as soon as possible, starting with fluids and progressing to semi-solids and eventually to a full diet. Indication for Termination of Pregnancy in H.G: 1. After proper treatment. If no improvement of the pt. occurs within 24 hours in severe cases and in 7 days in mild case. 2. Peristant rise of pulse, temparature and fall of B.P < 100 mm of Hg. 3. Presence of retinal hemorrhage, persistant albuminuria, bile in urine or jaundice. 4. Appearance of neurological complications. Method of termination of pregnancy in H.G: 1. Before 12 weeks- D&C 2. After 12 weeks- abdominal hysterotomy. f |
| Introduction | If the vomiting is persistent and disturbs the patients health it is termed Hyperemesis gravida-rum. There may develop ketosis, electrolyte imbalance and vitamin deficiency. |

| Clinical Features | Clinical feature: Symptoms: 1. History of amenorrhoea. 2. Excessive vomiting. 3. Progressive deteriorating of health. 4. Scanty & dark coloured urine. 5. In severe case- restless, mental confusion, diplopia, dimness of vision & evenblindness. Signs: 1. Weightless 2. Rapid pulse (100- 120/min) 3. LowB.P 4. Dehydration- dry coated tongue, sunken eyes, anxious look, skin is i inelastic & lusterless. ‘ 5. In severe case- jaundice, squint. 6. P/V exam- confirm the pregnancy. |
