| Cause | Ear picking and or its resultant ear infection, abnormalities of external auditory canal, foreign body impaction, excessive earwax production due to anxiety, fear and stress, and aging are among important factors leading to earwax impactions |
| Signs Symptoms | Hearing loss. Earache. Sense of ear fullness. Itching in the ear. Dizziness. Ringing in the ears. Cough. |
| Diagnosis | Direct visualization with an otoscope. |

| Management | Management: 1. If the wax is hard. Saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate (7.5%) instilled thrice daily for ten days. 2. Syringing is done by aural syringe with sterile water at body temp. The external canal is straightened by pulling the ear upwards and backwards. Under direct vision the water stream is directed along the postero superior canal wall and the out flow with the wax is collected in the kidney tray held tightly below the ear. 3. In case of old, dry & hard plug ring probe or Hartmann’s aural forcep is used. |
