| Introduction | A condition where the CO2 tention in the arterial blood (PCO2) is below the normal range of 31-42 mmHg. due to excess loss of CO2 by over ventilation of the lungs. It is caused when there is excessive loss of carbonic acid by overventilation of the lungs as in hysterical overbreathing, over ventilation during the course of assisted respiration. Other, causes are- meningitis, pneumonia, encephalitis etc. In severe cases respiratory arrest follows. |
