DESLOUGHING AGENTS aid healing of leg ulcers by removing slough, promoting growth of granulation tissue and combating infection.
EXUDATE ABSORBANTS such as dextranomer and cadexomer iodine absorb exudate and odour and hence prevent slough formation.
ANTISEPTICS prevent secondary infection stimulate the formation of granulation tissue.
FIBRINOLYTIC/PROTEOLYTIC enzymes digest proteinaceous slough.
GROWTH FACTORS such as becaplermin promote granulation and healing of neuropathic diabetic ulcers of the legs and feet.
DRESSING and HOSIERY for use in the management of leg ulcers are in Section 21 and 22 respectively.
