LANSOPRAZOLE

Indications & Dose:


Adults


Benign gastric ulcer, duodenum:


30mg daily in the morning for 4-8 weeks.


Zollinger ellison syndrome:


60mg daily, adjusted according to response; daily doses 120mg or more given to two dividwd doses


Duodenal ulcer/Reflux oesophagitis:


30mg daily in the morning for 4-8 weeks.


Maintenance


15-30mg daily.


Acid related dyspepsia


interminant courses, as required by, 15mg or 30mg once daily for 2-4 weeks, investigate patients who donot respond after 4 weeks or who quickly relapse. All taken in morning before food.


Hypersecretory conditions:


Initially 60mg once daily : adjust according to response. Divided doses of 120mg or more administer twice daily.


Tripple therapy vs H. Pylori:


30mg twice daily with two of the following antibiotics for 7 days.


- Clarithromycin: 250-500mgtwice daily


-Amoxycillin; 1gm twice daily or


-Metronidazole;400mg twice daily


Children



1-12 years : GRD, up to 30 kg 15mg once daily, more than 30 kg 30mg once daily
Note: Doses were increased in some pediatric patients if stil symptomatic after 2 or more weeks of treatment (max doses 30mg twice daily


Children 12-17 years Non erosive GERD: 15mg once daily up to 8 weeks , Errosive esophagitis: 30mg once daily for up to 8 weeks


(When recommended in pediatrics needs specialist care and read literature of manufacturer) oral suspenntion for pediatrics not available

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects:

CNS: Headache
GI: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, increased ALT and AST, nausea

Interaction:

Drugs
Cefpodoxime, cefuroxime, ketoconazole, enoxacin: Reduced concentrations of these drugs
Digoxin, nifedipine: Increased serum concentrations of these drugs


Food: 50% decrease in absorption if given 30 min after food compared to the fasting condition
Glipizide, glyburide, tolbutamide: Increased concentrations of these drugs, potential for hypoglycemia
