Indications & Dose:
Snake Venom Abtiserum for the treatment of envenomation caused by bites of the cobra, common Krait, Russell’s Viper and Saw Scaled Viper
DOSAGE:
Initial dose depends upon an estimate of the amount of envenomation ans symptoms shown .
Minimal Envenomation: Progrssive local swelling but no systemic symptoms.: 5 vials (50ml) is recommended
Moderate Envenomation: Swelling beyond the site of the bite, mild systemic symptoms, and hematologic and coagulation abnormalities are present.: 5 -10vials (50ml-100ml) is recommended
Severe Envenomation: Rapidly Progrssive and extensive local effects, systemic symptoms and evidence of hemolysis or "coagulopathy.: 10-20vials (100ml)-200ml is recommended
Contraindications:
Blood transfusion or immunoglobulin injection within previous three months, concurrent therapy with ACTH or corticosteroid, irradiation, alky-lating agents or antimetabolitis. Blood dyscrasias, leukaemia, malignant neoplasm affecting bone marrrow & lymphatic systems. Primary immunodefficiency states, acute febrile infections. Hypersensi-tivity.
PREGNANCY. Children below 5 years contraindicated.
Special note: Does not afford protection against Salmonella Paratyphii A or B
