(b) Oral Typhoid Vaccine Contains the attenuated strain Ty 21a of Salmonella Typhii. The attenuation is due to the absence of enzyme uridine diphosphate galactose-4 epimerase which is essential for the production of the lypo polysacchride ‘O’ antigen. The absence of this enzyme makes Ty 21a highly immunogenic. This oral vaccine acts in a way similar to the typhoid bacillus but instead of the fever, give immunity against it.
