Oxytetracycline + Polymyxin B. Sulphate

Indications & Dose:

Superficial ocular infection involving the conjunctiva and cornea caused by Oxytetracycline and Polymyxin B sulphate susceptible organisms. It is effective in infection caused by susceptible strains of staphylococci, streptococci, Pneumococci, Hemophilus influenza, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Kochweeks bacillus and proteus.


DOSAGE: Apply one cm ribbon of the ointment into the lower conjunctival sac (s) of affected eye (s) 2-4 times a day, depending on the severity of the infection. The Patient should be instructed to avoid contamination of the tip of the tube when applying the ointment.

As with all antibiotic preparations, use of this drug may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. If superinfection occurs, the antibiotic should be discontinued and appropriate specific therapy should be instituted.
