Polymyxin B +Zinc Bacitracin

Indications & Dose:

Treatment of bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa, including, conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulceration and ulcerative blepharitis. Applied both pre and post-operatively to prevent ocular infection following surgical procedures, including the removal of foreign bodies from the eyes.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: a thin film of ointment should be applied, either directly to the effected part or inside the lower conjunctival sac one or more times a day depending on the severity of the condition.treatement should be continued until at least two days after the eye has apparently recovered

. children: may be used in children with dosage and administration regimens as for adults.

elderly: no specific information is available regarding the use of this product in the elderly.however,it is not expected that any special precautions are required.
pregnancy and lactation: has been used for several years without any untoward effect in pregnancy. the clinical benefit of treatment to the patient must be balanced against any possible but unknown hazards to the developing foetus. 

Contraindications:

patients who are hypersensitive to polymyxin B sulphate, bacitracin zinc or to cross-sensitizing substances.

occular administration polyfax eye ointment is extremely unlikely to lead to significant adsorption of the constituents and therefore presents no risk of systemic toxicity.

Adverse Effects:

allergic hypersensitivity following topical (dermatological) application of polymyxin B sulphate and bacitracin zinc is rare but has been reported. anaphylactic reactions following topical (dermatological)application of bacitracin zinc have been reported. however, this is a rare occurrence’s with other antibacterial preparations, prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi.
