May cause increased intra-ocular pressure, glaucoma or other associated ocular damage. If significant rises occur, treat with appropriate therapy. The enclosed sterile cannula is for single use only.
Clinical Application: Cataract surgery, intra-ocular lens implantation Slowly introduce a sufficient amount of Viscogel into the anterior chamber using the provided 23 gauge or larger cannula. The injection of Viscogel can be accomplished either before or after delivery of the crystalline lens. Injection of Viscogel prior to lens delivery will have the additional advantage of protecting the corneal endothelium from possible damage due to removal of the cataractous lens. Hydroxy propyl Methyl Cellulose may be used to coat surgical instruments and the intra-ocular lens prior to insertion. Additional volumes of viscogel can be injected during the surgery to replace any viscogel loss as a result of surgical manipulation or other circumstances (such as elevated IOP).
