Nimesulide

Indications & Dose:

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, low back pain, dysmenorrhoea  and other gynaecological disorders, dental and postoperative pain, in reducing pain of ear, nose and throat inflammation. Pain of malignancy, sports injuries.



Adults


100mg bd.


Children


5mg/kg/day divided in 2 or 3 daily doses.

Contraindications:

Active peptic ulcer. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment.


PREGNANCY & BREAST-FEEDING: Contraindicated. 

Side Effects:

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, heart burn, epigastric pain, pruritus, skin rash, headache, somnolence, dizziness.

Renal impairment, heart failure.


Old Age: Use with caution

Interaction:

Drugs


Fenofibrate, Salicyclic acid, Valporic acid and Tolbutamide: These drugs displace nimesulide from the plasma binding sites.


Methotrexate and Frusemide: These drugs may be displaced from plasma proteins by nimesulide.


Warfarin: Exercise caution since efficacy may be increased.


Theophylline: Efficacy of slow release theophylline preparations reduced.
