Nefopam HCL

Indications & Dose:

Moderate pain
Adult:

• BY MOUTH

initially 60mg (elderly, 30 mg) 3 times daily, adjusted according to response; usual range 30-90mg 3 times daily

• BY INTRAMUSCULAR INJECTION

20mg every 6 hours

Note: Nefopam hydrochloride 20mg by injection is equal to 60mg by mouth.

Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications:

Children, history of epilepsy and myocardial infarction. 

Side Effects:

Nausea, nervousness, urinary retention, dry mouth, light-headedness; less frequently vomiting, blurred vision, drowsiness, sweating, insomnia, tachycardia, headache; confusion and hallucinations also reported; may colour urine (pink). 

Cautions:

Hepatic  and  renal  disease, elderly, urinary retention

Precautions:

Hepatic and renal dysfunction. Urinary retention.
PREGNANCY: Safety not established.
Breast-feeding: Use with caution.
OLD AGE: May be given in reduced dose.
