Tizanidine

Indications & Dose:

Spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury or disease



Adult: Initially 2 mg daily, then increased in steps of 2 mg daily in divided doses, increased at intervals of at least 3–4 days and adjust according to response; usual dose up to 24 mg

Renal impairment, hypotension, impaired hepatic function, children. 

Interaction:

Drugs
Clonidine, guanabenz, guanadrel, guanethidine, guanfacine: Potential for hypotension, avoid concurrent use


Oral contraceptives: Decreased clearance of tizanidine

lipid soluble, may pass into breast milk

Side Effects Or Adverse Reactions:

CNS: Asthenia, dizziness, dyskinesia, nervousness, somnolence, speech disorder
CV: Hypotension, orthostatic hypotension
EENT: Blurred vision, pharyngitis, rhinitis
GI: Abnormal liver function tests, constipation, dry mouth, vomiting
GU: Urinary frequency
MS: Increased spasm or muscle tone
