Methyle Ergometrine maleate

Indications & Dose:

Benign prostatic hyperplasia.


Oral: Port-partum haemorrhage, uterine atony, menorrhagia, menopausal haemorrhage, stubborn and prolonged uterine inertia.


Inj.: Active management of 3rd stage of labour. Uterine atony/haemorrhage during and after third stage of labour, in association with cesarean section, following abortion, subinvolution of the uterus, lochio-metra, puerperal bleeding. 

Contraindications:

Coronary insufficiency, first stage of labor, peripheral vascular disease, sepsis, impairment of hepatic and renal function.


Pregnancy.


DOSE


Adults: Active management of 3rd stage of labour: Oral: Ergotab – 300-540mg after 3rd stage of labour. Thereafter 150-270mg thrice a day. I.V.: 0.1 to 0.2mg slowly i.v. Uterine atony/haemorrhage: 0.2mg i.m. or 0.1 to 0.2mg i.v. may be repeated at intervals of not less than 2 hours. Subinvolution, lochiometra, puer- peral bleeding: Oral: 0.125 to 0.25mg Inj: 0.10.2mg s.c. or i.m., upto 3 times daily. In lactating women preferably not longer than 3 days.

Breast- feeding: Use with caution.

Interaction:

Drugs


Beta-blockers, methy-sergide, smoking: Risk of vascular occlusion increased.


Erythromycin: Increased plasma concentration of erogotamine.


Oral contraceptives: Increased risk of thrombosis
