Indications & Dose:

Adults : •


• BY MOUTH


Dysfunctional uterine bleeding;,


200 mg daily for 3 months. Start on 1st day of menstrutation and continue without interruption


Children : Not recommended


• Fibrocystic breast disease:


• BY MOUTH


Initially 300mg daily for 3-6 months


Mastalgia:


• BY MOUTH


100-400 mg daily for 6 months


Gynaecomastia:


• BY MOUTH


400 mg daily for 6 months


Children, 200mg daily for 6 months, if no response after 2 months increase to 400mg daily


. • Endometrriosis;


• BY MOUTH


Start on 1st day of menstrutation and continue without interruption, 200-800mg daily for 6-9 months. Prior to ablation, 400-800mg daily for 3-6 weeks


Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications:

Side Effects:

CNS: Dizziness, emotional lability, fatigue, headache, nervousness, sleep disorders, tremor


CV: Elevated blood pressure


GI: Constipation, hepatic dysfunction (doses >400 mg/day), nausea, vomiting, pancreatitis


GU: Clitoral hypertrophy, hematuria, pelvic pain, testicular atrophy, menstrual irregularities (spotting, amenorrhea; cycle disturbances), vaginal dryness


METAB: Decreased HDL, increased LDL


SKIN: Acne, edema, flushing, mild hirsutism, oily skin or hair, sweating


MISC: Changes in libido, decrease in breast size, deepening of the voice, glucose intolerance, weight gain

Carbamazepine: Predictably increases serum carbamazepine concentrations, toxicity possible 


Cyclosporine: Increased serum cyclosporine concentrations, toxicity possible


HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (lovastatin, pravastatin): Myositisrisk increased


Oral anticoagulants: Enhanced hypoprothrombinemic response


Tacrolimus: Increased tacrolimus concentrations, toxicity possible
