Indications & Dose:
Symptomatic relief of urinary burning, itching, frequency, and urgency associated with UT1, or following urologic procedures
DOSAGE
Adult: PO 100-200 mg tid after meals; do not exceed 2 days when used concomitantly with antibacterial agents for UTI
Child: • P0 12 mg/kg/day divided tid after meals
Contraindications:
Renal insufficiency
Side Effects:
CNS: Headache
EENT: Staining of contact lenses, yellowish tinge of sclera
GL: GI disturbances, hepatitis, jaundice
GU: Orange-red discoloration of urine, renal stones,transient acute renal failure
HEME: Hemolytic anemia, methemoglobinemia
SKIN: Pruritus, rash, yellowish tinge of skin
MISC: Anaphylactoid-like reaction
PATIENT/FAMILY EDUCATION
• May cause GI upset
• Take after meals
• May cause reddish-orange discoloration of urine; may stain fabric; may also stain contact lenses

Chronic or prolonged use in undiagnosed urinary tract pain may lead to delay in appropriate therapy~ children <12 yr
