Indications & Dose:

Plasmodium falciparum malaria



Adults


Prophylaxis, over 14 years, 1 weekly. Treatment, over 14 years, 2-3 tablet as a single dose.


Children


Prophylaxsis, under 4 years, quarter adult dose; 48 years, half adult dose; 9-14 years, 1/2 tab; 4-8 years, 1 tab; 9-14 years, 2 tabs. All as a single dose;

15ml in single dose.


Children


Curative single dose: Under 4 years, 2.5ml, 4-6 years, 5ml; 7-9 years, 7.5ml; 10-14 years, 10ml. Prophylactic dose:


Adults


Non-immune subjects, 5ml as a single dose once in a week; semi-immune subjects, 10-15ml once every four weeks.


Children


Prophylactic dose: Under 4 years, 2.5ml as a single dose; 4-8 years, 5ml as a single dose; 9-14 years, 7.5ml as a single dose. The mentioned prophylactic dose is once every two weeks for nonimmune subjects while once every four weeks for semiimmune subjects. 

Contraindications:

Sulphonamide sensitivity, severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Blood dyscrasias. Neonates, pregnancy, lactation

Perform regular blood counts, during long term prophylaxis. Avoid excess sun.

Skin rash, pharyngitis or pruritus (discontinue immediatly), G.I Distress, blood dyscrasias,. Rarely erythema multiforme. Stevens.Johnson syndrome. Lyell’s syndrome
