MEBENDAZOLE

Indications & Dose:

• BY MOUTH

Adult and Children

Pinworms:

PO 100 mg as a single dose; may need to repeat after 3 wk 

Whipworms, roundworms, hookworms:

• BY MOUTH

PO 100 mg twice daily for 3 consecutive days; repeat course in 3-4 wk if necessary

Interaction:

Drugs
Carbamazepine: Decreased mebendazole concentrations and effect via induction of metabolism
Phenytoin: Decreased mebendazole concentrations: possible impairment of therapeutic effect

Consider treatment if the parasite is causing clinical disease or may cause public health problems; it is doubtful that enough  mebendazole is absorbed to be excreted into breast milk in significant quantities
