Indications & Dose:
Mild to moderate infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract; uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections; nongonococcal urethritis or cervicitis caused by susceptible organisms; gonococcal urethritis*; chancroid; otitis media; prevention of Mycobacterium avium complex infection in AIDS patients*
DOSE
Adults: Usually 500mg once daily for 3 days taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. Genital infections. 1000mg as a single dose.
Children: Under 3 years (upto 15kg), 10mg/kg; 3- 7 years: 5ml; 8-11 years; 7.5ml; 12-14 years: 10ml. All as a single daily dose for 3 days, taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to erythromycin
Side Effects:
CV: Chest pain, palpitations
CNS: Dizziness, headache, somnolence, vertigo
GI: Abdominal pain, cholestatic jaundice, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, heartburn, hepatotoxicity, melena, nausea, stomatitis, vomiting
Gtr: Moniliasis, nephritis, vaginitis
SKIN: Photosensitivity, pruritus, rash, urticaria
