Indications & Dose:

Acute treatment of headache phase of mi-graine with or without aura.


Dosage


Adults: Initially 40 mg swallowed whole with water during headache phase. If headache recurs in patients who respond, repeat dose within 24 hours but not within 2 hours of first dose. Maximum 80 mg daily. Patients who fail to respond initially should not receive second dose for same attack. Elderly, notrecommend-ed.


Children: Not recommended

Contraindications:

Severe renal or severe hepatic im-pairment, moderate to severe or untreated mild hyper-tension, coronary heart disease, ischaemic heart dis-ease, angina, previous Ml, confirmed silent ischaemia, Prinzmetal’s angina, significant arrhythmias, heart fail-ure, peripheral vascular disease, history of cerebrovas-cular accident or transient ischaemic attack. Hemiple-gic, ophthalmoplegic or basilar migraine, atypical headache.

Precautions:

 Mild to moderate renal impairment; reduce initial and max dose. Risk of cardiac or coronary artery disease; assess prior to use. 

Interaction:

Ergotamine or its derivatives, methy-sergide, other triptans or 5HT1 agonists, potent CY-P3A4 inhibitors, protease inhibitors, St. John’s Wort. 

Warnings:

Adverse Effects:

Asthenia, chest symptoms (pain, tight-ness, pressure), headache, abdominal pain, back pain, chills, throat tightness, flushing, palpitations, tachycar-dia, Gl upset, dry mouth, myasthenia, myalgia, somno-lence, dizziness, hypoesthesia, vertigo, pharyngitis, sweats, sensation of warmth, tingling, hypertonia, aller-gic reactions.

Lactations:

Pregnancy Risk cannot be ruled out.
