Indications & Dose:

Adjunctive treatment of cortical myoclonus



Adult: Initially 7.2 g daily in 2–3 divided doses, then increased in steps of 4.8 g every 3–4 days, adjusted according to response, subsequently, attempts should be made to reduce dose of


In chronic  indication:


Adults: 800mg in morning, afternoon & bedtime. In sub acute indication.



: Inj. 3 amps thrice daily. In acute indication: Inj. 3 amp four times daily. Ischaemic stroke: 12g i.v. over 20 mins. followed by 12g i.v./day for 4 weeks or orally. Post stroke complications: (Aphasia/hemi-plegia) 4.8g/day for 8 weeks.


Age associated problems (memorylapses, vertigo, concentration gap: 2.4-4.8g/day for 12 weeks. Learning difficulties: 3g/day in 3 divided doses for 1 school year.


Children :50mg/kg body wt. in 3 separate doses. Once the desired result has been obtained reduce the initial dose by half upto 6-8 weeks. 

Contraindications:

Hepatic and renal impairment & pregnancy. 

Side Effects:

 Hyperkinesia, rash, diarrhoea, weight gain, somnolence, insomnia, ner-vousness, depression. 

Cautions:

Avoid abrupt withdrawal & renal impairment. 

Precautions:

Hepatic, Renal or Cardiac disease.


Breast-feeding: Use with caution.


Old age: May be given.
