VENLAFAXINE

Indications & Dose:

Major depression



Adult: Initially 75 mg daily in 2 divided doses, then increased if necessary up to 375 mg daily, dose to be increased if necessary at intervals of at least 2 weeks, faster dose titration may be necessary in some patients; maximum 375 mg per day continued’!



Adult: Initially 75 mg once daily, increased if necessary up to 375 mg once daily, dose to be increased if necessary at intervals of at least 2 weeks, faster dose titration may be necessary in some patients; maximum 375 mg per day


Generalised anxiety disorder



Adult: 75 mg once daily, increased if necessary up to 225 mg once daily, dose to be increased at intervals of at least 2 weeks; maximum 225 mg per day


Social anxiety disorder



Adult: 75 mg once daily, there is no evidence of greater efficacy at higher doses, increased if necessary up to 225 mg once daily, dose to be increased if necessary at intervals of at least 2 weeks; maximum 225 mg per day 

Contraindications:

 Concurrent use of MAOIs (at least 14 days should elapse between discontinuation of an MAOI and initiation of venlafaxine; at least 7 days should be allowed after stopping venlafaxine before starting an MAOI, age <18 yr

Side Effects Or Adverse Reactions:

CNS: Anxiety, dizziess, insomnia, nervousness, seizures (0.3%), somnolence, tremor


CV: Hypertension (dose dependent; frequency 3%-13% ), vasodilation


EENT: Blurred vision, dry mouth, dysgeusia, mydriasis, tinnitus


GI: Anorexia, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting


GU: Abnormal ejaculation or or gasm; impotence, urinary retention


RESP: Yawning SKIN: Sweating


MISC: Asthenia
