TULOBUTEROL HCL

Indications & Dose:

Prophylaxis and control of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, bronchiectasis, tracheobronchitis with emphysema and other bronchospastic disorders and conditions characterized by bronchoconstriction.



Adults: 1mg twice a day.


Children: Syrup (1mg/5ml): 40 to 80mcg/kg/day in two divided doses. 

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines or any of the formula components.

Side Effects:

The incidence of certain cardiovascular effects is less with tulobuterol,Dosage related finger tremor is common with the agents, but the effects tend to lessen with continued administration of the Tulobuterol. Can also cause less frequent adverse reactions such as hypertension, palpitations, angina vomiting, vertigo, central nervous system stimulation, insomnia and headache with Tulobuterol.


PREGNANCY & LACTATION: Safety during pregnancy has not been established. It is not known whether excreted in human breast milk nor whether harmful effect on the newborn.

Precautions:

Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperthyroidism. As with other sympathomimetic bronchodilator agents, tulobuterol should be administered cautiously to cardiac patients, especially those with associated arrhythmias or coronary insufficiency. The concomitant systemic use of tulobuterol with other combined effect on the cardiovascular system may be deleterious to the patient. Tulobuterol should not be prescribed together with beta-blocking agents. Although an intravenous injection of a cardioselective betablocking agent can be given as a specific antidote for tulobuterol over dosage, the agents should be used with caution in patients with bronchospasm.
