Indications & Dose:
Adults
Hypertension:
1mg at bed time. Dose may be doubled every 7 days, if reqd. Usual maintenance: 2-10mg daily. Max: 20mg/day.
BPH:
Initially 1mg at bedtime, dose may be doubled at weekly intervals according to response. Usual maintenance 5-10mg daily. Max. 10mg daily.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity
Side Effects:
Marked hypotension with first dose of terazosin. Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, nasal congestion, peripheral oedema, syncopial episodes and headache. In patients with BPH postural hypotension has been reported more than in those with hypertension
Cautions:
First dose may cause collapse due to hypotension (within 30-90 minutes, therefore, should be taken on retiring to bed) (may also occur with rapid dose increase).SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Therapy should be started at a low dose given just before bedtime, liver dysfunction. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Breast-feeding & Old age: Use with caution.
