ENOXIMONE

Indications & Dose:

Congestive heart failure where cardiac output reduced and filling pressures increased



Adult: Initially 0.5–1 mg/kg, rate not exceeding12.5 mg/minute, then 500 micrograms/kg every30 minutes until satisfactory response or total of3 mg/kg given; maintenance, initial dose of up to3 mg/kg may be repeated every 3–6 hours as required



Adult: Initially 90 micrograms/kg/minute, dose tobe given over 10–30 minutes, followed by5–20 micrograms/kg/minute, dose to be given aseither a continuous or intermittent

Precautions:

Heart failure associated withhypertrophic cardiomyopathy, stenotic or obstructivevalvular disease or other obstruction; monitor bloodpressure, heart rate, ECG, central venous pressure,fluid and electrolyte status, renal function, plateletcount, hepatic enzymes; avoid extravasation;renal impairment.


 

Interaction:

Anagrelide.

Warnings:

Adverse Effects:

Ectopic beats, less frequently ventricular tachycardia or supraventricular arrhythmias (more likely in patients with pre-existing arrhythmias); hypotension; also headache, insomnia, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea; occasionally, chills, oliguria, fever, urinary retention; upper and lower limb pain.
