Indications & Dose:
Constipation
BY MOUTH
Child 1 month–3 years: 2.5–10 mg once daily, adjusted according to response
Child 4–17 years: 2.5–20 mg once daily, adjusted according to response
Adult: 5–10 mg once daily, dose to be taken at bedtime
PHARMACOKINETICS
Onset of action 6–12 hours. clearance before radiography, endoscopy, labour or surgery.
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction, undiagnosed abdominal symptoms. Pregnancy & breast-feeding.
Side Effects:
Prolonged use or overdosage can precipitate the onset of an atonic non-functioning colon and hypokalemia.

Precautions:
A lower residue diet is suggested prior to treatment and a generous intake of water or other clear fluids is recommended during treatment for bowel clearance. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Prolonged use is not recommended.
Old age: May be used.
Interaction:
Drugs
Since sodium picosulphate increases the rate of gastrointestinal transit it may affect the absorption of other orally administered drugs which are given concomitantly.
